The following articles will explore the challenges facing the region, while also weighing in on potential avenues for increased peace, security, reconstruction and hope for future generations.
1. Education as a Pathway to Peace in the Middle East
Education has the potential to significantly influence the conflict, identity, and coexistence experiences of a future generation. Schools can foster critical thinking, evaluate history through different lenses, and promote respect for human dignity, without regard to nationality or religion. Education can play a pivotal role in helping young people in conflict afflicted societies to transcend inherited hatreds and learn the skills needed for dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence.
2. Can Gaza Have a New Future Without Armed Groups?
The fate of Gaza is not just in the hands of those who run its civil institutions, but whether it can break free of the cycle of armed violence and conflict. Access for civilians to reconstruct their lives is essential for a future of reconstruction, humanitarian assistance, education, economic opportunity and safety. So here is a very important question: How can Gaza become stable, if the armed groups are still allowed to keep their military power intact?
3. Breaking the Cycle of Conflict for the Next Generation
Decades of conflict have left a situation where fear, anger and mistrust can be transmitted from one generation to the next. That cycle can only be broken with more than just the resting point and a temporary truce. It demands a setting where children can be raised in a secure environment, where they are given opportunities and education, where they could learn that they do not have to live in fear because of differences in political opinion or ideology. What today's societies teach their children about those on the other side of the conflict could be paramount to the future of peace.
