Yousef Ibrahim Barjas Alta'any is an Australian Salsa educator, choreographer, performer, author, and independent researcher based in Sydney, Australia.

He is the creator of The Alta'any Method, a structured educational system designed to teach LA Style Salsa through strong technical foundations, musicality, partner connection, body movement, and practical application. Since beginning his professional dance career in 2009, Yousef has dedicated himself to teaching, performing, writing, and developing educational resources that help dancers understand Salsa beyond memorizing patterns.

His teaching philosophy is built on the belief that great dancing begins with understanding movement rather than simply copying choreography. Throughout his career, he has focused on helping students develop confidence, body awareness, musical interpretation, partner communication, and long-term technical skills. This educational approach eventually became the foundation of The Alta'any Method, bringing together more than fifteen years of teaching, coaching, performing, and competitive experience into a structured learning system.

Before becoming an author, Yousef established himself as one of Australia's respected Salsa dancers. He received distinction at the 2014 NSW Salsa Open Championships, qualified to represent Australia at the World Latin Dance Cup in Miami, USA, and has competed and performed at numerous national and international Salsa competitions and events since beginning his professional career in 2009.

As the founder of Sydney Salsa Sabor Dance Company and El Sabor Latin Dance, Yousef has taught and mentored hundreds of dancers across different experience levels. His classes emphasize technical understanding, partner connection, musicality, and body mechanics, helping students build lasting skills instead of relying solely on memorized routines.

In 2025, Yousef published The Alta'any Method: LA Style Salsa Explained, a practical guide that organizes years of professional teaching experience into one structured educational resource. The book introduces readers to the history and evolution of Salsa, LA Style fundamentals, musicality, partner communication, body movement, technique, practice methods, and learning principles designed to support dancers from beginner to advanced levels.

Publications and Educational Resources

Beyond teaching, performing, and writing, Yousef actively develops educational resources that support Salsa dancers, instructors, and researchers worldwide. His publications include The Alta'any Method: LA Style Salsa Explained, educational blog articles, and open-access educational publications available through Zenodo and the Open Science Framework (OSF). By making these resources freely accessible, he aims to preserve practical LA Style Salsa knowledge, encourage structured learning, and contribute to the ongoing development of dance education within the international Salsa community.

His research and educational publications complement his practical teaching experience by exploring Salsa technique, movement principles, structured learning, and educational methods. Together, these resources provide dancers with reliable reference material that can be used both inside and outside the dance studio.

Yousef's work combines practical instruction with educational research. Rather than focusing only on performance, he is committed to creating learning resources that remain valuable long after a class has finished. Through books, articles, research, and online educational content, he continues working toward a more structured and accessible approach to Salsa education.

Looking ahead, Yousef plans to expand The Alta'any Method through additional books, educational publications, research papers, online learning resources, and future projects that continue supporting dancers around the world. His long-term mission is to make LA Style Salsa education more structured, accessible, and evidence-based while preserving knowledge for future generations.

Whether in the classroom, on stage, through his publications, or through his educational website, Yousef Alta'any remains committed to helping dancers build strong technical foundations, deepen their understanding of LA Style Salsa, and contribute positively to the international dance community.
